Cate welcomed to state patrol

April 25, 2012 | 0 comments

After 23 weeks of intense training, Neziah D. Cate, of Waupaca, has joined the ranks of the Wisconsin State Patrol.

He was among 32 to be sworn in and receive a badge during a graduation ceremony Friday, March 23, in Onalaska.

Cate received the Assistant Training Officers' Award for Physical Fitness. This was one of three awards presented to the graduating class.

Cadets in the 58th Recruit Class began their training program Oct. 9, 2011, at the Wisconsin State Patrol Academy at Fort McCoy. Their training prepares them for law enforcement careers as either state patrol troopers or inspectors in one of five regions around the state.

"Throughout their rigorous training as cadets, our newest officers displayed the mental, physical and emotional strength to succeed in a variety of traffic and public safety missions," said Captain Christopher Neuman, director of training at the State Patrol Academy. "The state requires at least 520 hours of training to earn certification as a law enforcement officer. However, our cadets received more than 800 hours of training before graduation, and they will continue their training and education throughout their careers."

Cate is a state trooper in Portage County.

He graduated from New London High School in 2004, and from the University of La Crosse in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in elementary education with a math emphasis.

His parents are Daniel and Cindy Cate, of Iola.
