Council bans concealed weapons on city sites
Residents are prohibited from carrying concealed weapons into city buildings under an ordinance amendment approved by the Common Council.
The council approved it when it met on Oct. 17. It took place about two weeks before a new state law takes effect that allows state residents to apply for a concealed weapons license. That law goes into effect on Nov. 1.
The vote by Weyauwega's council prohibits people - other than law enforcement officers - from entering the following places while carrying a weapon or a firearm:
• Municipal building.
• Fire station.
• Library.
• Historical museum.
• Sewage treatment building.
• All city well/pump stations.
• Street Department garage.
• Oakwood Cemetery building.
• Weyauwega Community Park.
• Peterson Park.
• W-F School District properties.
• All other buildings and land owned, leased or occupied and posted by the city.
Signs will be posted near the entrance of each of them, noting the restriction.
