Family friendly, illuminated pumpkins
Jim Miller of Waupaca says he's no artist, but has been carving pumpkins in October for more than a decade now.
He has a fantastic, family friendly display at his farm that is creative, and grows larger each year. There are pumpkins hanging from trees this year.
"I have a tribute to veterans, too, that will be finished by Friday, Oct. 28," says Miller. Sseveral pumpkins will list the names of every Wisconsin soldier that has died in Operation Freedom over the past 10 years. He will carve patriotic themed pumpkins to surround the list.
More pumpkins will be added each night until Halloween. He will keep lighting the pumpkins for a full week after Halloween. The lights go on at dusk each night and stay on until 10:30 p.m. on weekdays. On weekends, they stay illuminated until midnight.
From New London, take Hwy. W south to State Hwy 10 to Waupaca and exit on Hwy 22 south, towards King Veterans Home. Take a right on QQ, and the first left on Q. Follow Q past the Wheelhouse Restaurant, until you find a sharp right curve in the road. Go straight on the curve onto Golke Road. The farm is at at E668 Golke Road, about a half mile down. You can't miss it. Drive slowly, as many visitors are often walking across Golke Road after parking.
Donations are appreciated and people may donate canned goods to be delivered to the Waupaca Area Food Pantry.
