Fremont set for a revaluation
The village of Fremont will undergo a revaluation in early 2012.
When the village board met on Oct. 11, it approved a contract with Larry Preuss to do the revaluation in 2012 at a cost of $10,500.
Preuss, the village's assessor, presented three options to the board. They were:
• A full revaluation.
• A walk-around revaluation.
• A market update.
The board decided to have Preuss do a walk-around revaluation.
The state is requiring the village to do one, because residential is down to 73 percent, Village Clerk Karen Looker said.
Wisconsin law requires that assessments be at market value. When a municipality is no longer at or near market value, all of the properties in the municipality must be reviewed to bring all property to full market value and to ensure that taxes are distributed equitably and uniformly.
A full revaluation was last done in Fremont in 2004. The walk-around option will take place in early January, Looker said.
