Girl Scout memorabilia needed for display
Ambassador Girl Scout Mara Scherer is working with New London Public Museum to create a display honoring the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouting. Scherer has been a Girl Scout for 12 years. Developing a collection and display for the museum is her Gold Award project. Scherer would like your help. If you have any Girl Scout memorabilia, please consider loaning it to the New London Public Museum, where she will develop a display to be showcased in March through May 2012, commemorating the 100th anniversary. You can contact Mara Scherer at 920-982-3213 or through the New London Public Museum 920-982-8520.
Juliette Gordon Low is the founder of Girl Scouts. The first troop was established on March 12, 1912, in Savannah, Georgia. Outdoor skills, first aid, and basketball were some of the first things that the Scouts learned. Now, 100 year later, girls are still learning these skills along with hundreds of others. Girls Scouts started with a troop of 18 girls and one adult, and has grown to 3.2 million girls and adults in 2011.
The New London Public Museum is a gathering place to explore history and discover a wider world.
