Haircuts for Locks of Love on Jan. 28
Family Video is teaming up with several hair stylists to provide Locks of Love for children.
On Saturday, Jan. 28, Kristie Gaines, Jesse James and Julie Christensen will be on hand to do haircuts in the space that is next to Family Video on Furman Drive.
The hair will be donated to Locks of Love, which is a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under age 21 who are suffering from long-term medical hair loss from a diagnosis.
"We decided to do something like this to get involved in the community. We'd like to be able to help out. It's a way to reach out," said Drew Ackers, who is the store manager at Family Video.
Saturday's event coincides with this week's DVD release of the movie "50/50." The movie is about a 27-year-old man who loses his hair after a diagnosis with cancer.
Ackers said the space next to Family Video is currently open, and his landlord is letting them use the space for the haircuts.
In order for hair to be donated to Locks of Love, it has to be 10 inches in length when in a ponytail, and it cannot be bleached.
The haircuts for Locks of Love will be free and will take place from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
To make an appointment, call Family Video at 715-258-3616 or Kristie's Up North Barbershop & Hair Salon at 715-258-7003. Walk-ins will also be accepted.
Gaines and James are from Kristie's Up North Barbershop & Hair Salon, while Christensen is an independent stylist.
