Harper appointed to Village Board
Dave Harper was appointed to the Iola Village Board at its Nov. 14 meeting.
Harper will fulfill the trustee term of Brian Tucker, who resigned from the board in early November because he is no longer a resident of the village.
The board discussed a donation to help pay for the banners recently purchased by the Iola-Scandinavia Area Chamber of Commerce.
Village Board President Joel Edler noted that most of the banners have been put up. Other comments from the board included: "They are nice looking banners;" "They are advantageous for the downtown area;" My grandkids noticed them;" and, "I wish they had asked us before they purchased them."
Trustee Jerry Harvancik made a funding request to the board on behalf of the Lake Iola Lake District. According to Harvancik, the lake district would like to replace the pier at the launch site. He said it is "wobbly and rickety," and asked if the village could help pay to replace it. The board advised Harvancik to first get estimates for steel and lumber, or for a ready-made and removable dock.
Public Property & Streets chair Don Loken reported that the lights have been in the municipal garage. The total cost was only $826 after a rebate from the Central Wisconsin Electric Cooperative and the sale of some scrap material.
Loken noted that the village has been doing a lot of maintenance work on the sewer lines.
