High school students donate blood

Dec. 28, 2011 | 0 comments

Little Wolf High School has always contributed to the Community Blood Center, This year the students will have saved 138 lives, since each person who donates saves three lives.

The blood drive took place on Wednesday, Dec, 14 at Little Wolf High School. Students 17 or older were allowed to donate and those 16 years old could donate with permission from their parents.

According to the Community Blood Center nurses, "It went good and the students were very friendly and respectful. We thought some of the first time donors could have been more educated on eating and drinking 45 minutes in advance. Also, students should have cut out caffeine the day before they donated and made sure they stayed hydrated with lots of water."

"There were a lot of treats and overall the drive was well organized." said the volunteer in charge of registration.

If you begin donating blood at age 17 and donate every 56 days until you reach 76, you would have donated 48 gallons of blood, potentially helping save more than 1,000 lives.

Ms. O'Brien and the FFA each donated $50 for the treats. Mrs. Huettner, Mr. Roenz, Carmen Wesener and Ms. Cordes also provided help to make the drive a success. The students of LWHS hope that every year they can do their part to save lives.
