Join in singing 'Jesus Christ, Superstar'
There is an open invitation to join in singing the music from the musical "Jesus Christ, Superstar" at 7 p.m. on Good Friday, April 6, at First United Methodist Church.
The public is also invited to join in a potluck supper at 6 pm.
"Jesus Christ, Superstar" tells the story of Jesus' last days, as he traveled to Jerusalem, went to the temple, shared the Last Supper, was put on trial and then crucified.
On Good Friday, a group of volunteer musicians and singers will be leading everyone through singing the music.
"We had some people approach us about their love of the music and their desire to share it with the community in a laid-back, open, welcoming setting, as opposed to performing a musical production," said Rev. Mike Weigand, one of the pastors at First United Methodist Church. "So, we have a group of experienced musicians from different churches and outside Waupaca who have practiced the music well enough to lead it and sing the difficult parts. It's not a performance or anything fancy, it's a chance for people to reconnect with the music and its meaning on Good Friday."
They have been rehearsing since March 7, meeting at 7 p.m. each Wednesday at the church. Others are also welcome to attend the rehearsals.
Those who attend the April 6 sing-along can join in singing, or they can just sit back and listen.
There is no charge for the sing-along, and people who go to the potluck supper are encouraged to bring a dish to pass.
First United Methodist Church is located at 720 Demarest Street, across from Riverside Medical Center.
