Manawa Marketplace set to open
Several business owners recently formed the Manawa Business Revitalization Group with the goal of finding ways to encourage local spending.
The first event to materialize from the group is the introduction of the Manawa Marketplace, which will take place each Saturday through October. There will not be a Manawa Marketplace Saturday, June 30, which is the weekend of the Mid-Western Rodeo.
"As things progressed, the Manawa Marketplace concept took hold and the Revitalization Group just went for it," Manawa Police Chief David Walker said. "It was a great thing to be a part of and we all felt the time was right to do something positive for the community as a whole."
Scott Bickley, owner of Little Wolf Automotive and Manawa Chamber of Commerce president, also encouraged the Revitalization Group to give a presentation to the chamber membership.
"I think the Manawa Marketplace is going to be a real benefit for the local community. The idea was well received," Bickley said.
John Smith, from the Manawa Steakhouse, presented the Manawa Marketplace project at the May Manawa Parks and Recreation Committee meeting. The committee voted to recommend the Marketplace site be placed at the Triangle Park. The city council adopted the Park and Recreation Committee's recommendation to hold the Manawa Marketplace at Triangle Park.
The Manawa Marketplace will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. each week. The first Manawa Marketplace will take place June 2 and will coincide with the Manawa citywide rummage sale. There will be live music for the opening Marketplace. Items expected for sale include farm produce, arts & crafts and miscellaneous new and used goods.
