The Friends of the New London Public Museum (FNLPM) has reached the one-third mark of its "111 in 2011" Founding Member goal. The group currently has 37 Founding Members and would like to secure an additional 64 by Dec. 3.
FNLPM's primary goal is to provide auxiliary funding for the needs and programs of the New London Public Museum, beyond its normal day to day operations. Achieving 111 Founding Members will assure FNLPM has sufficient funds to begin granting financial support to the New London Public Museum for the preservation of its collections, new exhibits, and/or additional community educational programs-efforts that otherwise may not be possible.
All FNLPM members enjoy benefits including advance notice of Museum exhibits and programs as well as reduced admission for selected special events and programs like FNLPM's recent Chicago Museums & Culture Motorcoach Tour.
Nearly 50 people took advantage of the Oct. 28 Culture Motorcoach Tour to the Chicago museums, sponsored by the Friends of the New London Public Museum. Passengers had the opportunity to visit the Museum of Science and Industry, The Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium (above), and other cultural attractions.
FNLPM is also now an official member of the Missouri History Museum's 2011-2012 Time Travelers program. FNLPM members can present their membership card at over 200 museums and historical sites nationwide to enjoy reciprocal benefits and privileges such as free or reduced admission, gift shop discounts, and free parking. A link to the complete list of participating museums and historical sites can be found by clicking on the Time Travelers icon in the lower right corner of the FNLPM website www.fnlpm.org.
Individual memberships are $25 per year; Family memberships are $40. Benefactor ($100) and Patron ($250) levels are geared toward community members who would like to provide additional support.
