New name for Riverview Park
A downtown Waupac park has a new name.
Riverview Park has been renamed Rotary Riverview Park.
The Common Council voted in favor the name change during its March 20 meeting.
The request for the name change came from the Waupaca Breakfast Rotary Club.
"They've pretty much taken on this park as a project. They're asking that it be renamed," said Parks Superintendent Russ Montgomery.
The park will get new signs. The park's arch on Main Street will continue to say "Riverview Park" but will include the addition of a Rotary symbol on the arch's posts.
It was noted that renaming Riverview Park may clarify the difference between the downtown park and another city park - Riverside Park.

And, gluing "Rotary" in front of Riverview, doesn't do anything to distinguish it from Riverside.
In the middle of this budget crunch (not to mention a national recession), you're going to spend money on new signs?
Russ (I won't get in trouble like my predecessor) Montgomery says, "they asked", so we're renaming the park.
Who does Russ Montgomery work for? The City Administrator: Henry Veleker
Who's asking for the name change? Well, let's see, who's the current president of the Waupaca Breakfast Rotary Club?: HENRY VELEKER
You do the math.
I guess it's less obvious than "Paca Pub Riverview Park & Pub".
If the council wanted to show some ambition, they might do some research and find somebody in the city's history worthy of having a park named after him/her.
