NL Middle School recognized for reading skills
Superintendent Bill Fitzpatrick presented an Exemplary Award to Middle School Principal Terry Wetzel during the districts regular scheduled board meeting on October 10.
The New London Middle School was recognized for its significant improvement in reading skills by the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators.
"Out of 336 Middle Schools in the state of Wisconsin, New London was one of 30 that were recognized," Fitzpatrick said.
With the status as an Exemplary Middle School, the school can apply for the Middle School of Excellence Award.
Board members congratulated and thanked staff, administrators and students for a job well done.
Third Friday Student Enrollment
Third Friday in September student count showed a net loss of 42 students from the district.
Based on last year's 215 graduated seniors and an average enrollment of 145 4K and Kindergarten students, the district anticipated a reduction of 70 students.
"Although we experienced a loss of students from last year, the results were better than anticipated," Fitzpatrick said. "This means that we picked up 28 students more than expected via move or transfer into the district."
The third Friday count data and property valuation will be used to calculate final budget adjustments.
Action to certify the levy with the new data will taken by board members during the Special School Board Meeting on Oct. 24.
Bye Bye Birdie
Students Casey Houlihan and Anna Solberg serenaded board members and administrators with a song number from this year's fall musical Bye Bye Birdie.
The production of "Bye Bye Birdie" will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 3-5 in the High School auditorium.
Tickets can be purchased at the High School's main office for $10 starting Oct. 24.
