Rotary funds 11 school projects
Waupaca Breakfast Rotary Club awarded 11 education grants totaling $9,580 for projects submitted by Waupaca school teachers.
Fifteen grant applications were received for funding from the Rotary Education Grant Program announced in December 2009. Four projects for the high school, one for the middle school, and six projects for the elementary school were approved.
The high school pgrants include automotive technology lab equipment, an ultrasound machine for veterinary science classes, GPS units for science and math classes, and power supplies for physics classes.
Snap circuit electronics kits were approved for the Waupaca Middle school and six reading programs were funded for the elementary school.
A large part of the proceeds from Rotary Club's two major fund raisers - Waupaca's Own Summer Concert and the Rotary Oktoberfest - benefit educational programs. In addition to the grants, student scholarships, international exchange programs, high school music department enhancements, student community service recognition programs and youth education seminars receive funding.
"Actively supporting education in the Waupaca area is a key mission of the Rotary Club," said Wes Klages, education grant program chairman. "The objective of the grant program is to award a moderate amount of funding for projects that can provide a significant benefit to student education; projects that otherwise might not be possible."
