Senior Tribute Concert at WHS

May 16, 2012 | 0 comments

The Waupaca High School Vocal Music Department will present its final concert of the year on Sunday, May 20.

It is free, open to the public and will begin at 2:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center at Waupaca High School.

The concert honors the graduating seniors who have dedicated the better part of their high school careers to vocal music and will feature the following ensembles: Mixed Chorus, Treble Clef Chorus, Women's Concert Chorale, Die Meistersingers, Chamber Choir and the Concert Choir.

The choirs are under the direction of Kira Morrissey and Dan Wolfgram. The accompanists will be Wanda Eikenbary and Mike Barden.

Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis, and the doors for the concert will open at 2 p.m.

The annual Senior Tribute Concert is one that is filled with much tradition, sentimentality and great choral music.

For 43 seniors, this will be the last concert they perform as a member of the W.H.S. Vocal Music Department.

The concert is dedicated to the seniors who will be graduating the following weekend.

It will showcase a variety of different choral selections that also represent the most difficult literature the choirs will attempt this year.

Directors Wolfgram and Morrissey said this concert will offer a variety of music that includes choral music from the Renaissance to spirituals and 20th century literature .

"The choirs are singing the highest caliber of choral music at this time of the year. Mrs. Morrissey and I eagerly await this concert due to the nature of the literature," Wolfgram said. "

The performance will conclude with the traditional graduation song, "You'll Never Walk Alone."

The graduating seniors will leave the stage during the performance, leaving their stoles on the director's podium to symbolize their parting.

The Choral Music Department's highest award, the National Choral Award will also be presented.
