Spring Band Concert is May 8
The Clintonville High School (CHS) Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble will be presenting their annual Spring Concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, in the CHS Auditorium.
The Jazz Ensemble will be performing pieces including "A Night in Tunisia" by Dizzy Gillespie, "Until I Met You" by Freddie Green, and "Aim High" a Jazz/Rock tune by Lawrence Conservatory Professor Fred Sturm.
The concert band will begin their performance with the Sousa March "The Thunderer" which the band members worked on as part of a clinic facilitated by members of the Air Force Band of Mid America during their recent visit.
The performance will continue with music from the Disney/Pixar Film "Up." This piece will also feature art created by Clintonville High School art students. New music will also be featured on this concert. John Mackey is a contemporary composer in the wind band genre.
The Concert Band will play one of his most recent works, "Foundry." This piece features all types of metallic percussion including a semi brake drum, various pieces of metal, stacked cymbals, suspended metal bowls, and a variety of other pieces of "found" percussion instruments. The concert will conclude with a piece written by Frank Tichelli called "Amen!"
During the concert, Matthew Betz, Haley Bodoh, Ashley Booth, Wendy Jensen, Tisha Kenfield, Rachel Kirchner, Paige Lehman, Angela Marcks, Kelsey Raasch, Hattie Rhode, Zach Lapp, and Zach Aschebrook will be recognized as graduating seniors. The recipients of the John Phillip Sousa Band Award and the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award will also be announced.
The Clintonville Music Boosters will be serving dessert at intermission. Please join us for a great evening of music played by our High School Students.
