Volunteers at St. Joseph's top notch

Nov. 2, 2011 | 0 comments

NEW LONDON - St. Joseph Residence recently recognized 88 of their outstanding volunteers for the service they provided over the past year. Each of them displays a sense of community and generousity that still exists in small towns like New London.

The time, commitment, compassion and humor they share with residents is what makes the facility a special place to live and work.

The following volunteers were honored for outstanding service in the role of volunteerism:

Ray Kamps, The Spirit of St. Joseph Award; Al Hidde, 1,000+ hours; Jerry Jaeger, 1,000+ hours; Linda Schlavensky, 200+ hours; Tim Countney, 100+ hours; Sandy Pankow, 100+ hours; Lee Shaw, 100+ hours.

Sara Reybrock, activity direction and volunteer coordinator for St. Joseph Residence explains that the purpose of the Spirit Award of St. Joseph Award is to give recognition to any individual who, by some action, goes over and above to improve the quality of life for St. Joseph residents.

"Ray dedicates every Friday to our residents by reading the newspaper and engaging them in meaningful conversation about what's going on in the world and our community." Sara says he does this with humor, knowledge and kindness. "Our residents look forward to his program every week-they come early and stay late to get every bit of information.

"We are so lucky to have Ray and it was an honor to present him with the Spirit of St. Joseph Award," said Sara.

The spirit award was first given in 1993 to Laundry, Housekeeping and Maintenance for putting on a Mardi Gras Parade at St. Joseph.
