What's Going On at the Mielke
October is Breast Cancer Awareness and Respect Life month. As a breast cancer survivor, I'm already aware of the effect of this horrible disease, and have lost dear friends because of it. Life is a precious gift from God, from conception to death, not to be taken for granted.
To completely change the subject…murder and mayhem abound on the stage of the Mielke Arts Center! "Out of Sight…Out of Murder" is now playing from Oct. 6-9 and 13-16. Cheryl Jones Ritter is directing, along with Amy Steenbock, her assistant. Call 715-526-2525 for tickets.
We are happy to welcome the Shawano County Historical Society to the Mielke on Oct. 17 for their county-wide meeting and social gathering. They are now a part of the Shawano County Parks System, so they thought they would meet at the Mielke, which is also part of the system. Since this is the day after the closing of the play and the tear down of the set, the theatre will have a bare stage, with seating set up for the next production, which will be the Christmas Spectacular in December. Marcy Rosenow, committee contact, told me they wanted to meet in the realistic setting of the theatre - the way it would be at that time. The Step 'N Sisters senior tap dance group, along with Granny Annie, will entertain on the Mielke stage. It should be an interesting evening!
The Step 'N Sisters will also be dancing across our stage in the Christmas Spectacular on December 1-4, along with other acts performing music of the holiday season. Mary-Beth Kuester will again be directing this popular production, with the free will offering benefiting local charities.
Our prop/costume shed is bulging, so we have to sort, clean, and dispose of some of the unusable or undesirable items. The members of the Guild are to gather on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 9 a.m. to help with this process. We need all the help we can get! We basically have to haul everything out and clean the floor of the shed before we put things back. We get many duplicate items, such as old hats and prom dresses, which will be sorted and placed in a separate area. We plan on having a better-than-rummage sale of items that we don't need any more. The public will be able to pick up some pretty interesting items! More on that later.
Enjoy your life…you only get one!
