Youth bowlers from around Wisconsin meet in Manawa
Kegler's Bowling Center hosted a Grand Prix Scholarship Program youth bowling tournament over the weekend. The majority of the bowlers ranged from third grade to seniors in high school. They were from various parts of Wisconsin.
The Grand Prix Scholarship Program gives participating youth bowlers the opportunity to build a scholarship account for their college years.
The tournament held in Manawa over the weekend was one of seven tournaments held throughout Wisconsin each year. A total of 91 youth bowlers participated in the tournament.
It was the first time Kegler's Bowling Center has hosted a Grand Prix Scholarship Program tournament. Matt Beyer, owner of Kegler's Bowling Center said Kegler's has been more involved with youth bowling in the community in an effort to help the sport of bowling grow.
"This year we have 81 kids in our own bowling program from third grade to high school, and 53 of those I believe are in the Grand Prix," Beyer said. "The first year we started, I think we had four, and that was four years ago."
Of the local youth bowlers, Ben Struzynski of Manawa won the Division 2 portion of the tournament over the weekend.
Kegler's Bowling Center will be hosting a high school bowling tournament on Sunday, Dec. 18, starting at 10:30 a.m. Participating high schools include Amherst, Iola-Scandinavia, Manawa, Marshfield, SPASH, Waupaca and Wittenberg.
