Bridge club to meet at Holly Center

WAUPACA – The Waupaca Duplicate Bridge Club will meet at 9 a.m. Friday, Feb. 12, at the Holly History and Genealogy Center, 321 S. Main St.

Jack Rhodes will present a brief bridge lesson aimed at beginning players at 8:30 a.m., with play to commence promptly at 9 a.m. All area bridge players are invited to attend, and refreshments will be served.

In bridge action on Jan. 22, the large field was again divided into North/South and East/West sections for purposes of competition. Winning first-place North/South were Arnold Miller and his Appleton partner, Elsbeth Schmitz. In second place was the duo of Waupaca’s own Bobby Burns and his Coloma partner, Stephanie Schwingel, while Eric McVickar, Appleton, and Sally Hamm, Neenah, collected third-place honors.

The winners in the East/West competition were Carol Konrad, Neshkoro, and Wayne Larson, Ripon, with the Waupaca team of Betty Stauffer and Kristi Massman finishing a close second. Paul Geske, Appleton, teamed with Eleanor Muenster, Waupaca, to capture East/West third place and round out the winners’ circle.

This year the club has a new award each session for the novice team placing highest in the competition, with the novice category defined by total number of master points the team has acquired. The first winning team under the new award category was the duo of Jay and Cathy Quella, Weyauwega.
