Waupaca teen charged with sexual assault
On Dec. 8, 2008, Detective Sgt. Robert Karski began investigating the alleged sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl. Initially, the girl told both Karski and an investigator with Child Protective Services that she and Attoe, who was 17 at the time, were just friends and that their relationship had not been sexual.
She later told investigators that she and Attoe had sex in August 2008 at his home.
On Jan. 19, 2009, investigators spoke with the girl again. This time she reportedly said that her father had pressured her to accuse Attoe of having sex with her. She again denied having sex with Attoe.
Later that same day, however, investigators spoke with the girl's sister. She said Attoe had called the girl prior to her speaking with police.
The court subsequently issued a child abuse injunction, prohibiting Attoe from having any contact with the girl, including phone calls or texting.
On Sept. 23, 2009, Waupaca Police Officer Diana Flatoff was informed that the girl was now pregnant.
When questioned by investigators, the girl said Attoe was the father and that they had sex in late March 2009.
Attoe faces up to 40 years in prison if convicted of sexual assault of a child.
