Drug charges filed against New London man
Darrin T. Young, 23, New London, was charged with felony theft of a domestic animal, felony bail jumping, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia.
At 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, New London police were dispatched to the intersection of Elm and Shiocton streets in response to a complaint that two men had stolen a dog.
When Sgt. Todd Sarazin arrived at the scene, he found a dog running down the street and several people chasing it.
He spoke to the two men accused of stealing the dog. According to the criminal complaint, Young told the officer he and the other man had been walking past what they thought was an abandoned house. He said they saw the dog chained outside and unhooked its leash. As they walked away, the dog followed them, Young reportedly said.
Sarazin had questioned Young the prior night, at which time Young indicated he was unemployed and virtually homeless, spending nights with friends. However, Sarazin found $100 in cash in Young's possession.
Police Officer Ryan Denu spoke with the other man, an 18-year-old who has not at this time been charged. The teen accused Young of being involved in a drug deal. Young allegedly purchased 3/8 of an ounce of marijuana without paying for it while being paid to sell one-quarter of an ounce to another party without delivering it.
According to the criminal complaint, police seized a backpack with marijuana in it that allegedly belonged to Young.
