Felony domestic abuse charges filed
Anthony J. Hangartner, 23, New London, was charged with nine counts of misdemeanor bail jumping, three counts of disorderly conduct, three counts of attempted damage to property, contact after a domestic abuse arrest, criminal trespass, attempted criminal trespass and obstructing an officer.
On June 27, Hangartner appeared in Shawano County Circuit Court where he was charged with theft and criminal damage to property and released on a $1,000 signature bond.
On Oct. 30, Hangartner told New London Police Oficer Ben Schmidt that his 23-year-old girlfriend had hit him. Hangartner had small cuts under his eyes and welts on the side of his face, according to the criminal complaint.
Hangartner's girlfriend, who is seven months pregnant, told Schmidt that Hangartner threw her cell phone onto the floor and broke it, overturned a coffee table, had his hands around her neck and slammed her head against the wall. She said she hit Hangartner in self defense.
Police had Hangartner sign a domestic abuse no-contact form, which prohibited him from having any contact with the woman for 72 hours. The no-contact expired at 3:15 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2.
At 3:14 a.m. Nov. 2, New London Police Sgt. Earl Ruckdashel was dispatched to the woman's apartment. She said she had heard Hangartner trying to enter her residence and that she had seen him throw rocks, breaking two windows.
At 5:30 a.m., the woman called police again and reported that Hangartner had broken down the door to gain entry. She said Hangartner threw a computer monitor into a flat-screen TV. Police were unable to locate Hangartner.
The woman told police that Hangartner said, "He was going to kill me, the baby and himself."
At approximately 8:30 a.m., Officer Chase Schroeder saw Hangartner walking east on Pine Street, about one block from the woman's apartment. Schroeder pulled his squad car beside Hangartner, who reportedly took off running. Schroeder pursued on foot and arrested Hangartner in the Washington Center parking lot.
Hangartner denied throwing rocks at his girlfriend's windows. According to the criminal complaint, Hangartner told Schroeder, "I will just bond out and come right back tomorrow."
On Nov. 3, Judge Philip Kirk ordered a $15,000 cash bail as a condition of Hangartner's release from custody.
On Nov. 7, Kirk amended the bond to a $15,000 signature bond with the conditions that Hangartner possess no weapons or illegal drugs and that he have no contact with the woman.
