Manawa man faces narcotics charge

Nov. 23, 2011 | 0 comments

WAUPACA - Byron J. Oliver, 36, Manawa, was charged Nov. 11 with possession of narcotics.

On Nov. 4, an employee of The Store in Manawa called police and reported that a man was coming into the shop every morning and using the restroom for 15 to 20 minutes. After he left, the restroom would smell smoky.

Later that same morning, Manawa Police Officer Andrew Hopfensperger was called to The Store because the man had returned.

Hopfensperger arrived and knocked on the restroom door. He noticed what smelled like cigarette smoke.

The man identified himself as Oliver and said his own toilet was not working. When Hopfensperger searched Oliver, he reported finding a pack of cigarettes and an orange medicine bottle that contained a number of pills. Although Oliver had a prescription to most of the pills, there were 13 methadone pills in the bottle, according to the criminal complaint.

Oliver faces up to four years in prison if convicted of narcotics possession.
