Sex offender charged with registry violation
Stanley G. Baker, 41, Onalaska, was charged with violating the terms of the sex offender registry.
On Aug. 1, 1996, Baker was convicted of attempted sexual assault by use of force and reckless endangerment in La Crosse County Circuit Court. He was sentenced to seven years in state prison and ordered to register as a sex offender. His last known address with the registry was on the 500 block of Washington Street in Waupaca.
On June 1, Baker was charged in Waupaca County Circuit Court with felony theft after he was accused of stealing more than $2,000 from a fast-food restaurant in Waupaca, where he worked. A warrant was issued for his arrest.
On June 10, the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry office mailed a confirmation letter to Baker at his Waupaca address. Baker failed to respond, according to the criminal complaint.
A second letter was returned by the U.S. Postal Service as undeliverable, and the Sex Offender Registry was unable to contact Baker.
Baker was later taken into custody in Onalaska. He appeared in court on Nov. 7 and was released from custody on a $2,000 signature bond with the condition that he not leave the state of Wisconsin.
