Three people have been accused of stealing storm sewer catch basins from the cities of Waupaca and Weyauwega.
Charged Nov. 14 with misdemeanor theft and felony reckless endangerment were Sara H. Nord, 36, Cara L. Nord, 36, and Prentice A. Dubose, 24, all of Weyauwega.
On Sept. 27, Waupaca Police Sgt. Brian Hoelzel spoke with the owner of Alter Metal Recycling, who reported that the Nords and Dubose had brought in metal storm catch basins.
Later that same day, Alter Metal Recycling called Hoelzel to report that Dubose had returned to sell more catch basins.
When Hoelzel arrived at the scrap metal facility, he found Dubose with catch basins in the car's trunk.
According to the criminal complaint, a total of 15 catch basins were stolen from the city of Waupaca. Nine of the catch basins were damaged and had to be replaced at a cost of $1,143. Labor and equipment costs to reinstall all the catch basins are estimated at an addition $1,010.
The Nords and Dubose face up to 10 years in prison if convicted of reckless endangerment and nine months in jail if convicted of theft.
