Waupaca County criminal sentencing

• Judge John Hoffmann sentenced Ronald J. Brummer, 26, Dodge Correctional Institution, to nine months in jail and assessed him $686 in fines and court costs.

Brummer was convicted of two counts of misdemeanor batery. Three counts of disorderly conduct and one count each of strangulation and battery were dismissed and read into the court record for sentencing purposes.

Hoffmann ordered that Brummer's jail time be served concurrent with the two-year prison sentence he is currently serving. Brummer was convicted of burglary in 2008 in Portage County and placed on probation. After being charged with multiple offenses in Waupaca County, Brummer's probation was revoked.

• Judge Raymond Huber assessed Larry J. Sherwood Jr., 35, New London, $2,268 in fines and court costs after convicting him of illegal deer hunting. A charge of felon in possession of a firearm was dismissed and read into the record.

In 2006, Sherwood was convicted in Winnebago County of felon in possession of a firearm, placed on 12 months probation, ordered to perform 40 hours of community service and assessed $343.

In 1998, Sherwood was convicted of reckless endangerment and disarming a police officer in Outagamie County. He was sentenced to two years in jail.

• Hoffmann sentenced Robert N. Lyons, 48, Waupaca, to six months in jail for failure to report to jail.

On Jan. 17, Hoffmann sentenced Lyons to 60 days in jail with work release after convicting him of misdemeanor battery. Lyons had 60 days to report to jail to begin his sentence.

On March 22, after Lyons failed to report and was taken into custody, Hoffmann revoked his work release privileges.

As part of Lyons' sentence on the failure to report charge, Hoffmann ruled that he would be given about three months credit for the time he already spent in jail.

• Hoffmann dismissed charges of theft and possession of narcotics against Tammy J. Gartzke, 34, Menasha. The dismissal came in response to a motion by the district attorney's office.

• Judge Philip Kirk placed Justin J. Bakke, 24, Waupaca, on two years of probation after convicting him of taking a vehicle without the owner's consent, A second auto theft charge was dismissed and read into the record.

Kirk also ordered Bakke to spend three months in jail and pay $4,208 in restitution as conditions of his probation.

• Huber placed Michael J. Oates, 31, Weyauwega, on one yar of probation and assessed him $268 in court costs.

Oates was convicted of a felony count of posession of marijuana. A misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia was dismissed and read into the record.

• Huber placed Ruthie J. Fields, 25, Clintonville, on one year of probation.

Fields was convicted of misdemeanor battery, amended from a felony charge. A disorderly conduct charge was dismissed and read into the record.

The judge also ordered that fields have no contact with the victim. According to the criminal complaint, Fields punched the victim several times in the face while they were at a Clintonville bar.

    Let's get this straight - he was convicted of the same charge in 2006, but this time he gets to walk? Before that, he disarmed a police officer - but now, the DA has agreed to ignore the fact that he's not only in possession of a firearm, but it is willing to use it illegally?
