Wrong woman cited for shoplifting
Feleesha J. Bruette. 22, Bowler, was charged Dec. 9 with identity theft to avoid civil process and obstructing an officer.
On Aug. 3, a woman went to the Clintonville Police Department to report that she had been the victim of identity theft.
She said she recently received a summons to appear in court for shoplifting at Family Dollar in Clintonville on Dec. 17, 2010.
The woman said she had never been to Family Dollar, and she had never been arrested for shoplifting.
She suspected that a former friend, Bruette, had used her name when she had been arrested. She said Bruette had used her name before when stopped by police for a traffic violation.
On Nov. 21, Clintonville Police Officer Mark Zachow, who had cited the woman who had been shoplifting in Clintonville, went to the Shawano County jail to meet with Bruette. He recognized her as the actual shoplifter.
Bruette was in jail at the time, serving 75 days for misappropriating ID and felony bail jumping.
In addition to her Waupaca County charges, Bruette is currently facing charges of battery by a prisoner and bail jumping in Shawano County; retail theft and obstructing an officer in Outagamie County; misappropriating ID, retail theft and obstructing an officer in Brown County; criminal trespass and retail theft in Langlade County.
