District to explain school referendum

By Holly Neumann

The Manawa School District will hold meetings to inform the public about the referendum questions that will appear on the Nov. 6 ballot.

The first question on the referendum will be whether to authorize the Manawa School District to issue general obligation bonds in an amount not to exceed $12 million to pay for a school building improvement program that includes constructing additions at the junior/senior high school, district-wide renovations, capital maintenance, building infrastructure, safety and site improvements and buying furniture, fixtures and equipment.

The second question on the November ballot asks if the Manawa School District may be authorized to exceed its revenue limit by $365,000 for the 2019-20 school year to demolish the vacant former elementary school building and return the site to green space.
