Sewing Day at Scandy library

Sock puppet workshop planned

The Scandinavia Public Library will hold a sewing workshop from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29.

For the Winter Sew Day, library staff and volunteers will help patrons sew an infinity scarf using an easy pattern for beginning sewers. Patrons will also have the option of making no-sew, stuffed ‘Sock Friend’ dolls crafted from crew socks.

Both activities are open to individuals of all ages and skill levels, however, anyone working on the scarf project should have enough patience and interest to complete it.

The library will have all materials on hand to make the ‘Sock Friend’ dolls. Patrons may bring a crew sock from home if they wish; the socks will be cut up to make the doll, however, so make sure it’s one that is not needed anymore.

The library will have a limited supply of fabric on hand to make the infinity scarves. Patrons are encouraged to bring their own fabric for the scarf project so they can create a scarf that best suits their own needs and tastes.

Light- or medium-weight, knit or woven fabrics can be used to make the infinity scarves, and should be 60- to 70-inches long and 12- to 24-inches wide. The finished scarf will be approximately half as wide as the width of fabric that you start with.

Recommendations for suitable fabrics can be found on the library’s website (www.scandinavialibrary.org) or ask one of the librarians for more information. Sewing machines and all other sewing supplies for this project will be provided by the library.

Reservations for this event are appreciated, but not required. Anyone interested in volunteering to help with this event should speak to a librarian or call the library at 715-467-4636.

Watch for more sewing events at the Scandinavia Public Library in 2016, including a pillow workshop on Thursday, Jan. 7.

Crafting Bee also continues every Thursday morning from 10 a.m. to noon. During Crafting Bee, patrons work on their own portable craft projects at the library in an atmosphere of creativity and mutual support. Crafters of all types and skill levels are welcome.

Upcoming events will be posted on the library’s website, or friend the library on Facebook to keep up with the activities.
