Truckers’ season ends 3-19

Clintonville girls fall to Shawano

Clintonville softball’s season of mostly losses concluded with smiles rather than tears Tuesday, May 27 after the Truckers fell to the Shawano Hawks 14-1.

A sacrifice hit by Clintonville’s Laura Lukoski during the first inning propelled sole scorer Sami Huggins to second base and Savannah Harbath batted her in.

Truckers coach Ronessa Lund said the Truckers went 3-19 this season but their final game, the first of the regional playoffs, was a big step for the team.

“It was the first time I saw the girls come out and hit the ball,” Lund said. “We didn’t look at nearly as many strikes as usual and we only struck out once the entire game. We scored a run right away in the first inning and then unfortunately hit the ball right at their defense the rest of the way. “

Lund said Shawano is made up of strong hitters who “always knows how to manufacture runs.” After the game finished the Truckers assembled in the diamond to reminisce, share a few laughs and say goodbye to the seniors.

“We just focused on all the positives of the year instead of what we could have done differently in that final game,” Lund said. “There’s no use in telling them what we could have done differently, eliminate mistakes or have better at bats at that point like I would have any other game.

“Overall it was a fun season and it was nice to see the team improve throughout the course of the year.”
