By Scott Bellile

The Clintonville Truckers baseball team lost a crack at sectionals after falling to Notre Dame Academy Tritons 8-2 on June 3.

No further information on the game was provided, but the Tritons went on to defeat Seymour 3-2 and were scheduled to play against Mosinee in a sectional semifinal after this newspaper went to press on Tuesday, June 9.

Clintonville 2, Marinette 1
The Truckers had a better outcome at their first regional game the previous night when they defeated Marinette 2-1 on June 2.

Marinette led the game for the first six innings with their sole run scored at the top of the third inning.

Clintonville had a chance to take the lead during the fourth inning when the Truckers loaded their bases. Two infield pop-ups and a fly ball to center field ended the rally with no runs crossing the plate.

The Truckers came around at the bottom of the sixth when Aaron Morse advanced to third base on a ball in the dirt and proceeded home on a throwing error to tie the game 1-1.

Then Hunter Vollmer hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Nick Hogen, giving the Truckers the 2-1 victory over Marinette.

Nick Hogen had Clintonville’s two lone hits and also threw a complete game four-hitter to lead the Truckers.
