Knapp, Signe S.

Signe S. Knapp, age 92 of Clintonville, passed away peacefully, Sunday, June 28, 2015 at Aster Retirement Community, Clintonville.

Signe Sophia Knapp was born August 23, 1922, the fifth of eight children born to the late Carl and Hannah (Anderson) Lundt in the Town of Matteson. She was baptized October 1, and confirmed August 16, 1936 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Town of Matteson. After skipping two grades, she graduated from eighth grade at age 12. Although she would’ve loved to attend high school, she was able to find work during the depression as a live in helper with many families, performing household duties and child care. During that time, she attended many dances and really enjoyed her independence. It was at a dance that she met her future husband, Fred. The couple was married on June 8, 1940 at Christus Lutheran Church, Clintonville, where she was currently a member. Fred and Signe moved to his family’s home farm in the Town of Deer Creek, where they dairy farmed until 1980. They were also blessed with four children: David, Al, Russell, and Rosemary. Signe was a wonderful cook, gardener, and quilter. In her later years, Signe enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing, playing pool, and traveling with her husband around the U.S. The light of her life was time spent with her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include: her daughter, Rosemary (James Lang) Knapp, Clintonville; her sons: David (Gloria) Knapp, Bear Creek, Al (Sally) Knapp, Pella; her grandchildren: Mike Knapp, Bear Creek; Karla (Terry) Hoffman, Gresham; Mark (Carla) Knapp, Bear Creek; Kim Malchow, Two Rivers; Jason (Polly) Knapp, Bear Creek; Robin (Michael) Dotlich, Indianapolis, IN; Corey (Lisa) Knapp, Freedom; Barry Knapp, Pella; and Shawn Knapp, Clintonville. 20 great-grandchildren: Heidi, Jessie, Alex, Andrew, Ava, Fred, Allison, Dylan, Hunter, Morgan, Lindsay, Amanda, Ava, Russell, Kendalyn, Logan, Cohen, Aedan, Bently, and Willow; her great-great grandchild, Keelyn, and her brother, Allen (Gloria) Lundt, Germantown.
