Manawa places second at regionals

Golfers had successful season
The Manawa boys’ golf team advanced to sectionals this year by placing second at regionals with a team score of 362.

The team placed fourth May 14 at the Central Wisconsin Conference meet at Foxfire Golf Club in Waupaca. Ryan Schuelke was leading the CWC going into the tournament and shot an 87, coming up a little short for the title. He finished fourth overall and received first-team all-conference honors.

The team wrapped up its season June 2 at a Division 3 sectional at McCauslin Brook Golf & Country Club in Lakewood.

The team consisted of seniors David Blum, Alex Koweleski and Matt Radloff; junior Scott Schuelke; and freshman Ryan Schuelke.

“The team was only five boys, but they were a good, dedicated and competitive group of young men,” coach Tim Schuelke said. “David and Alex were on the team all four years and will be missed next year. It was Matt’s first year on the team and he greatly improved from the beginning of the season. Scott and Ryan finished off the team and will be back next year.”

Assistant coach Gerry Hackbarth went to golf meets and helped the boys with their game, according to coach Schuelke.

“This team was one of the most improved teams Manawa has ever had from the beginning of the season to how we finished at the end,” he said. “Their hard work paid off and the boys should all be proud of their accomplishments in 2015.”
