Iola approves street work

Three projects to cost $74,000
By Jane Myhra

Three street projects were approved by the Iola Village Board during its July 13 meeting.

The total cost will be about $74,586.

The repaving projects include Jackson Street ($26,620), North Lakeshore Drive ($38,560) and the entry to Taylor Park ($9,406).

The Taylor Park costs were budgeted through the Parks Department. A total of $46,000 is available in the Street’s budget, leaving a remainder of $18,760.

With $19,630 in the Contingency Fund, options were considered for paying for the remainder of the street work.

The board agreed to approve all three projects, even if financing it may require a short-term loan.

Lyle Mork, representing American Legion Taylor-Sheveland Post 14, asked the village to fund the purchase of a $1,800 bench.

The board agreed to finance the bench.

According to Mork, the Veteran’s Memorial Park project is complete except for placing two four-foot granite benches by the lake. He expressed appreciation to the village for completing the sidewalk over the bridge.
