Big plays lift Bonduel over Indians

W-F must win remaining games to be in playoffs

Weyauwega-Fremont’s quest for a spot in the WIAA football playoffs took a hit Oct. 3, as Bonduel handed the Indians a 46-21 loss in Shawano.

W-F fell to 2-3 in Central Wisconsin-8 Conference play and 2-5 overall and will need to win both of its remaining games to make the playoffs. The Indians will play at undefeated Amherst Friday, Oct. 9, before wrapping up the regular season at home Friday, Oct. 16, against Shiocton.

The Bears had four scoring runs of at least 50 yards and outgained the Indians 429-165 on the ground.

Preston Robaidek put Bonduel on the board with a 70-yard run in the first play of the Bears’ second drive. Blake Stoss added a 1-yard touchdown run with 32 seconds to go in the first quarter and Bonduel took a 14-0 lead at the break.

The Bears added two more scores in the second quarter on Eric Mastey’s 3-yard run and a 50-yarder from Stoss.

Brandon Scheer capped the Indians’ first drive of the second half with a 54-yard run to cut the Bears’ lead to 26-7, but Bonduel answered on its next drive, as Stoss scored from 6 yards out. Robaidek added a 69-yard TD run later in the quarter to make it 40-7 and Jordan Boldt scored on a 61-yard run early in the fourth quarter for Bonduel’s final score.

The Indians tacked on two more touchdowns late in the game. Austin Marker scored from 27 yards out and Logan Bosquez threw an 8-yard pass to Trevor Flease with 45 seconds remaining.

The Bears outgained the Indians 491-229. Brandon Scheer led the Indians with 111 yards on 19 carries, while Stoss and Robaidek led Bonduel with 148 and 147 yards, respectively. Flease caught four passes for a game-high 54 yards.
