Westfield hands I-S boys’ basektball a loss
Westfield spoiled the season opener for the Iola-Scandinavia boys’ basketball team, as the Pioneers handed the Thunderbirds a 71-52 nonconference loss Nov. 24.
The Pioneers took a 34-24 lead into the locker room at halftime, led by as many as 23 points in the second half and closed the game with a 16-7 run.
Kristian Welch led the T-Birds with 16 points, while Zach Mortenson and Kenny Holz added 10 each and Adam Cherek chipped in with eight.
Justin Daye, Nick Brakebush and Nick Holly scored 60 of the Pioneers’ 71 points with 22, 20 and 18 points, respectively.
The T-Birds will host Antigo Friday, Dec. 4, before opening Central Wisconsin-8 Conference play Tuesday, Dec. 8, at home against Weyauwega-Fremont. Tipoff for both games is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
