News from the business sectorAdvantage Signs on the move

Ron started his career as an auto mechanic after spending a few years in the military. He worked for Mike Coyle in the 1980s, several GM dealerships, and recently as a fleet maintenance manager for an Appleton construction firm, where most of the vehicles in the fleet were exceeding 10,000 miles on an oil change using synthetic oil.

Vehicle manufacturers have mostly recommended oil change intervals exceeding 3,000 miles in recent years. In fact, most recommend intervals of 5,000 miles or more. He knows the advantages of changing oil at a higher mileage interval, which he does in his own vehicles.

“When you consider that an average person spends $25 per oil change and does this five or six times a year,” says Tank, “spending more to run your car 7,500 miles or more and change oil less often doesn’t seem too bad. Plus, you save time running from oil change to oil change.”

“It really does cost less in the long run,” says Tank. “That’s the hardest part of my job, is trying to educate people on the advantages of synthetics and have them switch over. Once they do, they are glad they did.”

Conventional wisdom has held that automotive oil should be changed about every 3,000 miles. This notion has been ingrained into people’s heads for decades, in part as a marketing ploy by oil companies. The 3,000-mile interval made sense when engines used single-grade nondetergent oils. But with the latest oils and car designs, it’s no longer necessary to change oil that often under normal driving conditions. Today’s engines are tighter and more efficient, so you don’t need to change oil as often with synthetics.

Ron invites you to stop by and discuss the possibilities of putting your car on a synthetic diet. He says you’ll be glad you did. Call him at 920-224-4204 for an appointment.

Stacy Huebner announces her Advantage Sign business is moving to the former Wisconsin Glass building at N3814 Cty. Rd. T. (Mill Street), next to Hardware Hank. Broker Glass occupied the building for decades prior and still owns the building.

Advantage Sign will open for business Jan. 17 at the new location. Previously the business was housed on the corner of Smith St. and Wolf River Ave.

“I needed a truck bay so I could offer my truck lettering year round,” said Huebner in a telephone interview. “Once it gets cold, I am unable to adhere the material to the vehicle.” Huebner says besides the truck lettering, business has been booming, and the new space will have three times the square footage, leaving room to grow.

“I feel the fit will be good being next to the hardware store, too,” said Huebner. “So many people shop at Hardware Hank, and between the two of us, we can certainly work together to meet customer needs.”

The sign shop will be open the same hours: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. They are closed Tuesday, Sat and Sunday, but are available by appointment when calling 920-982-9825.
