Rasmussen, Charleen A.
Charleen A. Rasmussen, age 70, of Port Edwards, died Friday, June 29, 2012 at U.W. Madison Medical Center with her husband and three children by her side. Charleen was born on the family farm near Manawa, WI on August 6, 1941 to Adeline and Arthur Krueger. She married James Rasmussen on October 9, 1965. In 1962, Charleen graduated from Norwegian American Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, IL, where she served as class president. She spent the next 40 years as a registered nurse. Charleen worked for 12 years (1979-1991) as the school nurse for the Port Edwards School District, where she touched the hearts of many students and staff. After retiring from school nursing, she finished her career tenderly caring for elderly patients. Char loved making others feel special and important. She had an unselfish way of putting others' needs before her own. Her natural way of nurturing those around her with kind, thoughtful words and her wonderful sense of humor will forever be remembered. She is survived her husband, Jim Rasmussen; her brother, Arthur (Carole) Krueger; 3 children, Mitchell (Cindy) Rasmussen, Marshall (Shelby) Rasmussen, and Kristen (Dennis) Schimanski; as well as her 9 precious grandchildren, Nicholas, Jordyn, Samantha, Abigail, Brooke, Camryn, Jake, Henry, and Charlie. She is also survived by countless friends, former students and co-workers whom she deeply loved, admired and cared for. She was preceded in death by her father, beloved mother and one stillborn grandchild, Zachary. The family wishes to acknowledge the outstanding care she received by Dr. Carlson, Dr. Kirschling and the numerous doctors and nurses both at Riverview and U.W. Madison. We wish to extend heartfelt thanks to all those who have supported our family through this difficult time. A gathering of friends and family will be held Friday, July 6th from 4-7 PM. at Feldner/Ritchay Funeral Home in Nekoosa. There will be an 11:00 AM. memorial service on Saturday, July 7th in Port Edwards at Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. Daniel Bohn will officiate.
