Writer needs to look up the word 'hypocrite'

Feb. 22, 2012 | 0 comments

Hockey fans are aware that the Boston Bruins had a good season and visited the White House on Jan. 23.

What you may not have heard is their star goaltender, Tim Thomas, skipped the team's visit with the president, or you have not heard why.

Thomas said, "I believe the federal government has grown out of control, threatening the rights, liberties and property of the people. This is in direct opposition to the Constitution and the founding fathers' vision ... today I exercised my right as a free citizen and did not visit the White House."

We have all heard "freedom is not free." We have all heard a lot of complaining about unregulated anonymous money being used for attack ads. I heard Chuck Schumer crying about this today. But I also heard the union AFSCME (American Federation of State, County and Municipal Workers) spent $1 million on Jan. 20 on an ad accusing Gov. Mitt Romney of being greedy.

In (the) Feb. 2 letters I read, "Republicans have been caught in outright lies and hypocrisy and Republicans are the biggest liars." But I don't take offense, because the writer says he doesn't "want to alienate anyone."

I suggest the writer look up "hypocrite" in a dictionary. He may well find a picture of Charles Schumer of New York next to the word.

I also suggest AFSCME members inquire why their dues are used to buy a $1 million ad to smear Mitt Romney. He isn't even a nominee yet.
