The Waupaca boys’ golf team will spend the rest of the season on the road after hosting its only two home meets of the season. The Comets ended up second at each meet, including a three-team Eastern Valley Conference match Monday, April 23, with Ripon and Fox Valley Lutheran at the Waupaca Country Club. Ripon 179, Waupaca 199, FVL 203 Ripon’s Ryonen Faris turned in the medalist round of 36 to lead the Tigers to a 20-stroke win. Logan Walters led Waupaca with a 49, followed by Max Hanson (50) and Grant Stearns, Shaun Plunkett and Ben Stone (52). Ripon edged Waupaca by two shots to win the junior varsity competition. The Tigers carded a 201, while Waupaca shot a 203 and FVL a 210. Berlin 165, Waupaca 181, Little Chute 183, Freedom 194, Winneconne 195, Clintonville 229 All five Comet golfers shot in the 40s, but Waupaca still came up short against Berlin. Hanson led Waupaca with a 43, followed by Walters (45), Stearns (46) and Plunkett and Stone (47). Little Chute’s Kyle Mulry had the low round with a 39. Waupaca is at the Nekoosa Invitational today (Thursday, April 26) and will head to Wautoma Monday, April 30, for the Wautoma Scramble at the Waushara Country Club.
