Bench comes up big for W-F
A pair of 20-point quarters helped the Weyauwega-Fremont girls' basketball team push it winning streak to eight games.
The Indians outscored Shiocton 20-12 in the first quarter and 20-9 in the third Friday, Jan. 13, in a 62-41 Central Wisconsin 8 Conference win.
Shiocton stayed close for most of the first half and trailed by only two points with about two minutes to go in the half, but the Indians pushed the lead to 33-24 at the break and also led 53-33 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Indians' Mariah Hulbert led all scorers with 17 points, with a dozen coming on her four three-pointers.
"We came out strong at the start of the game and out of the half," coach Joe Titus said.
"Getting 12 points and six assists from Macey (Schoenick) and 10 points and seven rebounds from Ellen (Schroeder) was great off the bench for us," he said. "Our bench accounted for 22 points, 15 rebounds, 11 assists and five steals. We also had a season-high 20 assists."
Danielle Austreng added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Indians, who improved to 4-1 in the CWC-8 and 8-3 overall.
"Eight straight wins feels good," Titus said. "The girls deserve to enjoy this and then get ready for Manawa next week."
The Indians will face the Wolves in Manawa at 8:15 p.m. in a Rock the Gym game.
