Boys first, girls second at invite
The Weyauwega-Fremont track team had a successful day Monday, April 23, at the Tri-County Invitational in Plainfield, as the boys' team placed first and the girls' squad finished second.
Team scores for the boys were W-F, 165; Plainfield Tri-County, 133; Gresham/Bowler, 101; Shiocton, 77.5; Manawa, 60; Marion, 59; Almond-Bancroft, 44.5; and Tigerton, 12.
Placing first for the Indians were Corey Zeutzius in the 400- and 800-meter runs (53.26 and 2:07); Dustin Hanes in the 100-meter dash (11.8); Tanner Ross in the high jump (6 feet, 1 inch); the 3,200-meter relay team of Bryce Behn, James Hoch, Logan Kobiske and Zeutzius (10:30.8); and the 400-meter relay team of Luke Rohloff, Calvin Swanson, Trevor Fitzpatrick and Hanes (47.6).
Seconds went to Rohloff in the 110-meter hurdles, Nick Thomas in the 1,600-meter run, Travis Ristau in the 400, Hanes in the 200-meter dash, Kobiske in the 3,200-meter run, Behn in the high jump and the 1,600-meter relay team, while Rohloff and Mike Howe placed third in the 300-meter hurdles and discus, respectively.
Team scores for the girls were Tri-County, 125; W-F, 123; Manawa, 116; Marion, 81; Shiocton, 59; Gresham/Bowler, 51; Tigerton, 35; and Almond-Bancroft, 28.
Ellen Schroeder led the Indians by winning the 400, 800 and 1,600 (1:07, 2:39 and 5:35.8). Two relay teams also finished first. The 3,200 team of Miranda Reindl, Alyse Peters, Amy Hingeveld and Jane Beyer turned in a time of 12:27.6 and the 1,600 team of Danielle Austreng, Beyer, Peters and Megan Young took first in 4:24.8.
Seconds went to Kaitie Gilbert in the 100-meter hurdles, Beyer in the 400, Austreng in the high jump and Liz Abhold in the shot put, while thirds went to Peters in the 1,600, Hingeveld in the 400, Abhold in the discus and the 400 and 800 relay teams.
The Indians will compete with Waupaca, Iola-Scandinavia, Manawa, New London, Clintonville and Marion at the annual Waupaca County Meet, set for 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at New London High School. W-F also has a home meet at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 3.
