Bruggink to be honored with court dedication
Legendary Clintonville coach and educator Carl Bruggink will be honored with a court dedication ceremony at 7 p.m. on Nov. 22, prior to the Truckers' game against Pulaski - one of Bruggink's old Bay Conference rivals. The basketball court at the Clintonville High School Field house will be officially named "Carl Bruggink Court".
Bruggink began his coaching career in 1960, during his first year of teaching. He retired in 2001. During his 41 years, Bruggink served as a coach, educator and athletic director.
During his tenure as a boys basketball coach, Bruggink's teams won 549 games, two state titles (1977 and 1989), three state runner-up trophies (1976, 1987, 1988), and nine conference championships. He has come out of retirement this year to coach the junior varsity girls basketball team.
Trucker fans, alumni, and community members are invited to help celebrate the occasion and recognize Bruggink for his efforts during his stellar education and coaching career. Watch for a story and photos on the special event in the Dec. 1 issue of the County Post East.
