Bulldogs place fourth at Cutler Classic
The Bulldog wrestlers earned a fourth place finish as they hosted the Cutler Classic on Saturday, Jan. 14. A total of 13 teams competed in the event.
Coleman took first place with 429 points, while Badger took second with 315.5. Little Chute scored 236, and New London tallied 201. Weyauwega-Fremont placed seventh with 131 points, and Waupaca finished ninth with 80 points.
Cutler Classic Results for New London
113: Kevin Urban placed second to score 30 team points. He received a first round bye and then beat Weyauwega-Fremont's Oliver Radtke by pin in 1:57. Urban then earned a decision over Little Chute's Zach Cibrario, 11-4. In the first place match, Jackson Margis of Coleman beat Urban by decision in a close 3-2 match.
120: Jake Close took fourth place and scored 18 team points. He also had a first round bye, and then won his quarterfinal match by a 4-2 decision over Cole Nebel of Sturgeon Bay. In the semi-finals, Bryce Zdanovec beat Close by a 5-2 decision. Andrew Winchell of Oshkosh North then beat Close by a 4-2 decision in the third place match.
126: Dakota Nieto scored two team points after beating Sturgeon Bay's Ben Weber by a 6-2 decision in the first round. Nieto was pinned in the quarterfinal and the consolation round.
132: Earon Postel placed seventh and scored five team points. He had a first round bye and lost his quarterfinal round by pin. He then received a bye in the consolation round, and lost a consolation semi-final by a 3-1 decision. He then pinned Weyauwega-Fremont's Tyler Hart in the seventh place match.
138: Austin Wyngaard placed fifth and scored 14 team points. He had a first round bye and lost his quarterfinal match by a 9-4 decision. He then received a bye in the consolation round, and won the consolation semi-final by a 12-4 decision. In the fifth place match, Wyngaard won a 3-1 decision over Stephen Delahunt of Sheboygan North.
145: Andrew Moser took third place and earned 23 team points. He had a first round bye and earned a 7-1 decision over Menasha's Bailey Whipple in the quarterfinal. Moser then lost an 18-5 decision to Mitch Champagne of Coleman, but won a 13-0 decision in the third place match over Little Chute's Shane Schwaller.
152: Travis Miller placed fourth and scored 19.50 team points. Miller had a first round bye and won his quarterfinal over Everett Clayton of Appleton East by a tech fall. Miller was pinned in the semifinal, and was pinned in the third place match by Mike Lyons of Little Chute.
160: Brett Handscke placed third and scored 23 team points. He had a first round bye and won an 11-1 decision over Weyauwega-Fremont's Brandon Loehrke in the quarterfinal. He was pinned in the semi-final, but earned a 10-9 decision over Jason Blevins of Oshkosh in the third place match.
170: Austin Postel placed third and scored 23.50 team points. He had a first round bye and won a 7-4 decision over Little Chute's Eric Epping in the quarterfinal. In the semi-final, he was pinned, but Postel came back to earn a tech fall over Lucas Benish of Oshkosh North in the third place match.
195: Mark Locy placed fifth and scored 13 team points. He had a first round bye and lost his quarterfinal match by pin. In the consolation round, he received a bye and then won a 4-2 decision over Quinn Schultz of Little Chute. Locy then won 7-5 in overtime against Pedro Zavala of Menasha.
220: Andrew Ritchie took second place, scoring 30 team points. He had a first round bye and pinned Waupaca's Caleb Hobson in the quarterfinal. He won a 3-1 decision over Kollin Long of Coleman in the semi-final, and lost a 5-2 decision in the first place match to Eddie Ruzga of Badger.
285: Brandon Tarnowski lost by pin in the first round. He received a bye in the consolation round and was then pinned by Ronald Balazs of New Holstein.
