Bulldogs win over Marines, upset Spartans
After jumping out to a 15-point lead early, the Bulldogs had to hang on in the fourth quarter to beat the Marinette Marines 61-52 on Tuesday, Jan. 24.
The Bulldogs were up 20-5 after one quarter and led 31-19 at halftime. New London outscored Marinette 14-13 in the third quarter, but the Marines closed to within two points in the fourth quarter. Though New London was outscored 20-16 in the final frame, they held on for the win with solid free throw shooting. The Bulldogs made 11 of 12 from the line in the game.
Jason Wenzel scored 16 points to lead the Bulldogs, while Tyler Wenzel added 14. Chris Steingraber added 12, while Caleb Chmielewski scored six. Jacob Pinch dropped in four points, while Austin Huntley, Luke Listle and Ryan Wolf all scored three.
New London sank eight 3-pointers, including three from Jason Wenzel, two from Tyler Wenzel, and one each from Huntley, Listle and Wolf.
New London 73, Luxemburg-Casco 46
The 8-8 Bulldogs pulled off a big upset of the 12-5 Spartans on Monday, Jan. 30, earning a 73-46 win.
The Bulldogs led 15-13 after one quarter and 30-19 at halftime. New London didn't let up in the second half, outscoring Luxemburg-Casco 20-15 in the third quarter and 23-12 in the final frame to win easily.
Jason Wenzel had a hot hand, scoring 19 points on the game. Steingraber added 14, as did Tyler Wenzel. Huntley scored 12, Wolf had five, Pinch scored four, Ryan Karow sank two, Listle tallied two, and Chmielewski scored one.
The Bulldogs play at home on Thursday, Feb. 2, against Shawano at 7:15 p.m.
