The New London Clippers lost their first game at the American Legion State baseball tournament, but bounced back to pick up a win in their second game, avoiding elimination.
Their third game was a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Menasha to end the Clippers' season.
Rhinelander 9, New London 1
Peyton Hofherr took the loss on the mound, issuing two walks to go with four strikeouts. Ben Mocadlo led the offense, hitting a double. New London scored its only run in the fifth inning, while Rhinelander scored three in the second, two in the fourth, one in the fifth, and three in the sixth.
New London 4, Menomonie 0
Facing elimination, Matt Ott pitched the Clippers to a victory. He allowed three walks while striking out six. Hofherr led the offense, going 2x4 with two doubles. New London scored on in the third inning, two in the fifth inning, and one in the sixth inning.
Menasha 2, New London 1
Luke Listle took the loss on the mound, walking two batters and striking out three. The Clippers committed four errors in the game, while Menasha committed just one. Menasha had seven hits, while New London had six.
Menasha took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and added the winning run in the top of the seventh inning.
Mocadlo led the Clippers at the plate, going 2x3 with a double.
