It's been a rough start to the season for the Waupaca Comet girls' basketball team.
The team entered Eastern Valley Conference play Tuesday, Dec. 6, against Appleton Xavier with an 0-2 mark after dropping nonconference games to Plymouth and New London.
Plymouth defeated Waupaca 57-45 Friday, Dec. 2, while New London handed the Comets a 69-30 loss Tuesday, Nov. 29.
Plymouth 57, Waupaca 45
PLYMOUTH - Waupaca held Plymouth to four points in the first quarter, but the host Panthers scored 22 and 21 points in the second and third quarters, respectively.
Waupaca led 6-4 after one quarter, but Plymouth led 26-20 at halftime and 47-32 after three quarters.
Mikaila Johnson had 10 points for Waupaca, while Morgan Smith added eight.
New London 69, Waupaca 30
NEW LONDON - The defending Division 2 state champions held the Comets to 10 or fewer points in each quarter and cruised to the win.
The Bulldogs led 20-5 after one quarter, 39-14 at halftime and 61-20 after three quarters.
Lexie Marringa scored eight points to lead Waupaca.
Waupaca will play at Fox Valley Lutheran Friday, Dec. 9. Tipoff is set for 7:15 p.m.
