Comets beat Truckers, 45-43
The Clintonville Trucker boys varsity basketball team suffered a tough two-point loss at the hands of the Waupaca Comets on Tuesday, Jan. 10. Clintonville outscored Waupaca 14-10 in the first quarter, but the Comets battled back and outscored the Truckers 12-9 in the second. Clintonville held a slim 23-22 lead at halftime.
Waupaca outscored Clintonville 8-7 in the third quarter to tie the game. The Comets also outscored Clintonville 15-13 in the fourth quarter to escape with the win.
Aaron Ziemer had nine points to lead the Truckers, while Xavier Fletcher added eight. John Schultz and Jesse Brauer both scored six, while Aaron Schmidt, Mike Fisher and Nathaniel Krueger tallied three each. Keaton Anderson and Tyler Sawall scored two, and Bryce Schoen added one.
Clintonville made just 16 of 52 field goal attempts (30 percent) and made only 6 of 22 from 3-point range (27 percent). The team made 5 of 8 free throws (62 percent).
The Truckers grabbed 29 rebounds and had seven steals while committing seven turnovers.
The Truckers play at home on Tuesday, Jan. 24 with the opening tip set for 7:15 p.m.
