Comets drop one-goal games
he Waupaca boys' soccer team dropped a pair of 3-2 games recently to Waupun and Winneconne.
Waupun defeated the Comets Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Waupun Double Duel, while Winneconne picked up its win Tuesday, Sept. 27.
Waupun 3, Waupaca 2
WAUPUN - Svante Thorn scored twice in the final 10 minutes, with one of the goals coming on a penalty kick.
Grant Tenpass gave the Warriors a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute on an assist from Ryan Gerritson, but the Comets' Patrick Snider tied the game at the 42-minute mark off of an assist from Eli Feezel. Feezel gave the Comets the lead 20 minutes later off of an assist from Max Carr.
Thorn tied the game in the 71st minute on a penalty kick and scored again four minutes later.
Eric Cummings had 14 saves for Waupaca.
Winneconne 3, Waupaca 2
WINNECONNE - James Schuld broke a 2-2 tie in the 75th minute.
Feezel and Elliott Carlowsky scored for Waupaca, with Hunter Bailey getting credit for the assist on Carlowsky's goal.
Cummings finished with 14 saves.
Jackson Lines scored Winneconne's first two goals.
The Comets hosted Appleton Xavier Tuesday, Oct. 4, and will wrap up Eastern Valley Conference play at 4:30 p.m. today (Thursday, Oct. 6), at Fox Valley Lutheran in Appleton.
State tournament play will begin Tuesday, Oct. 11. Waupaca is in a Division 2 regional with Appleton Xavier, Clintonville, FVL, Freedom, Mosinee, Northland Pines and Seymour. First-round pairings were not available at press time, but can be found later on the WIAA web site, www.wiaawi.org.
